This is our 7th year holding the exhibition and the 2nd year we are in the Dallas area.

The artist maintains his/her copyright, while giving us rights to promote the event.

This is the 7th Annual Holga & Friends Out of the Box (on creativity that is)  International  Photography Competition. The competition is currently open and the juror is O. Rufus Lovett, a professional photographer, lecturer, teacher, author and curator based in Longview, Texas.

The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers worldwide who use a toy camera or an element of it. Subject matter is open and images must be made with low-end, low-tech, limited-control cameras  “toy” cameras – such as pinhole, Diana, Holga, Brownies, Konstruktor F,  Anscos, and other Lomo products. Images made from Polaroid-type film backs attached to Holgas may also be submitted as well as photographs made from a DSLR or SLR with a Holga, pinhole, Diana, or plastic lens.

The Holga & Friends Out of the Box International Photography Exhibition opens at the Tammy Cromer Photography Gallery at 2543 Farrington St., Dallas, TX 75207 - in the Dallas Design District. Lomography and Freestyle are sponsoring the exhibition. Both will help with publicity. Lomography is giving the 1st place winner a camera package. HOLGA LIVES !
As many of you may know, the Holga camera stopped production last year. Luckily, the molds were recovered and Freestyle is manufacturing the Holga N Camera ! Let’s hope they can find the other molds too! Many thanks to Freestyle. Show them your gratitude by purchasing a brand new Holga Camera available in September 2017.

Juror, O. Rufus Lovett, has been living in Longview, Texas for the past 40 years and he has been teaching photography at Kilgore College and working as a fine art and editorial photographer.   In 2005 he was awarded the Piper Professor award from the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation in San Antonio for superior teaching at the college level.  The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association honored O. Rufus Lovett as Advisor Of The Year in April, 2016, in Dallas,  Texas. Lovett’s editorial work has appeared in People, Texas Monthly, LensWork, Money, Saveur, Gourmet, Texas Highways, Houstonia, Southern Living, Time and LIFE magazine, Reader’s Digest, and others.

Two of his photographic books were published by the University of Texas Press at Austin Weeping Mary in 2006 and Kilgore Rangerettes in 2008.  A more recent publication was completed with food writer Robb Walsh, Barbecue Crossroads that was released by The University of Texas Press in April 2013.
