Event History

Now in its 8th year, Audubon's Nature Photography Contest has recognized winners and finalist from around the world.

What Makes this event different?

The purpose of the contest is to give photographers an outlet to share their work and have it judged, while at the same time inspiring others to connect with nature and supporting the work of the Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) in Jamestown, New York. Winners and finalists can opt in to receive a personalized critique from the judge.

Copyright Policy

The photographer retains full copyright to his or her images.

Image Usage Rights

Participation in the contest requires the contestant to give Audubon Community Nature Center permission to use the photographs without compensation on the Contest Website as well as on other ACNC websites and in news releases which may appear in print or on third party websites for the purpose of publicizing the contest. ACNC will always include the photographer’s name when using a photograph for any purpose.

Audubon Community Nature Center’s (ACNC) 2018 Nature Photography Contest is for anyone who enjoys photography (from beginners to professionals) and who would like to enter their images for consideration.

In order to encourage artistic development, winning photographers and finalists can opt to receive a personalized critique from the judge.

The contest supports Audubon’s mission of connecting people with nature in two ways as the photographer experiences nature while shooting the images and the viewer gets inspired to connect with nature when looking at the often stunning results.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners in Adult (18 and over or post-high school) and Youth (ages 8-18 or still in high school) divisions. To give winners as much recognition as possible, ACNC will make and frame prints of the winning photographs to exhibit at the Nature Center for one year. Winning and 12 finalist (6 in each division) photos will be displayed indefinitely on the contest website along with the photographer's name and city/state/country. Winners will be named in a news release that is widely distributed, including to their local media when known.

Audubon Community Nature Center builds and nurtures connections between people and nature by providing positive outdoor experiences, opportunities to learn about and understand the natural world, and knowledge to act in environmentally responsible ways. Visit at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa., or online at auduboncnc.org.
