Event History
We are proud to offer our new residency programme by accepting two fortnight long residencies at the Fish Factory Arts Space this September.
What Makes this event different?
Several events are taking place during your residency in the local area which we will attend and you are welcome to join us: Exhibition: A certain kind of light at The Exchange, Penzance Exhibition: Outspoken at Falmouth Art Gallery Plymouth Art Weekender Penryn Mock Mayor festivities
The Fish Factory Art Space inhabits a warehouse on the edge of Falmouth Harbour, which is close to both Falmouth & Penryn in Cornwall, South West England.
The factory houses a small event space, twenty one studios, and an independent gallery which features a lively and varied program of contemporary, innovative and alternative visual arts, performance and events. Local artist Rose Hatcher opened the space in 2011, and the factory has provided a forum for both Cornish emerging artists and international collaborators who are working in challenging and diverse mediums from interactive installations, to photomontage, to murals, to printmaking, music and film.
In 2017 the offsite project OTSAM (Of Traditional Song and Music) opened in Penryn, adding an acoustic recording studio to the facilities. The diverse offerings have one thing in common that they flourish in the open and welcoming atmosphere that the Fish Factory offers. The factory offers a definite alternative to the corporate mainstream face of modern art today.
We provide you with studio space, based in our main gallery, use of the cosy shared project space which is home to comfy chairs and tea/coffee making facilities. We provide a desk, chairs and wifi. Additionally, you can take advantage of our collection of found materials, our acoustic recording studio and our basic darkroom (by arrangement).
The gallery is 30x30’ with 8’ high boards, a high ceiling and concrete floor. You share this space with one other resident and will be expected to negotiate how this is divided between the two of you. Working collaboratively is seen as a key part of the residency.
You have the option of holding a public event, or presenting your work on the 29th of September, but this is not essential as we see this residency as more a way for you to network, develop a project, and a chance to experience the Cornish art scene.
