Call to Photographers.
FOCUS 2018 is a national, fine art photography competition.
This call is open to U.S residents who are 18 years of age or older. All types of photographic processes, styles, post production techniques, and subject matter will be accepted.
THE JUROR: Kelly Sidley is the Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Photography at MoMA in New York. She has served as the Project Curatorial Assistant (2006-2009) and was a Lecturer (2007-2015) in the Museum of Modern Art's Education Department where she led gallery talks, presented lectures, and taught courses. Sidley has contributed to many exhibitions, including Out of Time: Contemporary Art from the Collection (2006-2007); Comic Abstraction: Image-Breaking, Image-Making (2007); Aernout Mik (2009), Inbox: Hans-Peter Feldmann (2017); and Louise Lawler: WHY PICTURES NOW (2017).
Kelly Sidley received her BA from Dartmouth College (1998) and then received her MA (2001) and PhD (2006) in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, where she wrote a dissertation on Andy Warhol's 1960s self-portraiture. Sidley has taught in both the undergraduate art history departments at New York University and Pace University. She was Assistant Curator for the exhibition Warhol on Warhol at La Casa Encendida, Madrid (2007); Curator of the Kimmel Center galleries at New York University (2004-2006); and Research Assistant in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2000-2003).
ENTRY FEE: $35.00 for up to 6 images/all of which could be selected for exhibition. Juring will be based on the body of work submitted.
AWARDS: Up to six pieces of work by selected artists will be included in a one month exhibition at the b.j. spoke gallery in Huntington, NY from August 1-26, 2018. One winning image and a short statement on the b.j. spoke gallery website. Promotion of the exhibition and winners will include print (and/or) social media, invitations in print and online. b.j. spoke gallery will host an opening reception for artists and their guests
REQUIREMENTS: Selected work must be available for exhibition. Work must be the original creation of the artist. The work must be framed, wired, or presented in a way that is suitable for hanging in a gallery. Loose photos will not be accepted. Glass is not permitted on work that is shipped, Plexiglass only.
