Event History

The Art League of Baytown was established in 1954 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 1963. Our mission is to promote the fine arts and create fellowship among practicing artists. This is our third season as a participating site for the biennial event. FotoFest is arguably the largest exhibition of fine art photography in the world and attracts over 600,000 visitors to the Houston metro area during the biennial six-week event.

What Makes this event different?

The Art League of Baytown is one of the few exhibition sites offering an opportunity to show your work at this prestigious event via a juried exhibition.

Image Usage Rights

By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant the Art League of Baytown the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, promoting ALB’s programs, promoting exhibitions and subsequent display on ALB’s website of current and past exhibitions, and represents that the artist created the image and has the right to make this grant of use. Promotions and images may also be placed on social networks for the Art League of Baytown with artist credit. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from ALB. We do run ads in print media at times promoting our events. The theme for the Art League of Baytown (ALB) FotoFest 2020 competition is Imagery: Shadow and Light.

There is no time limit for when a photo was taken. Photographers submit their work online via ArtCall.org.  To apply, you will need to create an account.  You need only create the account once.  If you have already registered with ArtCall in the past, you can simply log on to your existing account to submit your work.  All photographic methods are encouraged.

Nudes will not be accepted.  If you enter a nude for the competition, it will be removed from consideration and you will not be reimbursed.  Those are the rules.

Our juror for this event is Catherine Couturier, owner and director of Catherine Couturier Gallery. The Couturier Gallery is a premier photography gallery in Houston and sits at the center of Gallery Row. Catherine reviews portfolios for festivals and organizations such as Photo Nola, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, and FotoFest. She is a juror for Critical Mass, serves on the advisory council of Houston Center for Photography, and she give lectures to artists and collectors alike on a myriad of subjects related to the field of fine art photography.

Our juror will select images for the exhibition and choose the award winners from the submitted work.

The entry fee is $40 for up to five (5) images. Please do not send diptychs, triptychs or the like.  The jury process is not set up to view multiple images that are part of one piece.  Both professional and amateur photographers working in all photographic mediums and styles are encouraged to submit their work.

The maximum physical dimension for framed images is 36” on the longest side.  This is the measurement for the longest side of the frame and not the size of the photograph within.
