Event History

GRRL HAUS CINEMA is an ongoing program of short films and video art made by women. A mix of local, national, and international artists present work from a variety of disciplines: narrative, documentary, experimental, and conceptual. With an emphasis on low budget and DIY, GRRL HAUS is a space for underrepresented voices in the arts today. Our main events include bi-monthly screenings at IL KINO in Berlin Germany, as well as events at the historic Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA. These events have showcased over 200 filmmakers, including multiple musical performances, video art installations, and local vendors. The event began in 2014 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the Brattle Theatre. What started as a venue to screen local Boston filmmakers has now expanded to an international event screening female filmmakers work from all over the world. In 2017 GRRL HAUS expanded its screenings to Berlin, with bi -monthly events at Loophole Berlin and Oblomov. In 2018 we had a total of 12 screenings. 2018 venues included : The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Alamo Drafthouse Yonkers, WORM Rotterdam, Loophole Berlin, IL KINO, Brattle Theatre and Dorchester Art Project.

GRRL HAUS CINEMA is now offering a 2 week-long intensive “Screen Your Film Seminar” in Berlin.

This is an opportunity to have two public screenings of your films. One of your shorts will be screened during our GRRL HAUS events at IL KINO ( , where you will also take part in a filmmakers Q&A and you will have a separate artist talk and screening of your work at a Berlin project space (tba).

During this time you will also have time to develop new projects and explore Berlin and discover it’s film and art scene.

This opportunity is well suited for emerging (female identified) filmmakers and video artists who already have completed works to be shown, and have a desire to work in and explore Berlin.

Week 1: Work on projects on your own with meet-ups for discussions, critiques, and advice on projects. Attend selected events, screenings, and exhibitions in the evenings.

Week 2: The start of this week you will present a short film at a Berlin cinema (IL KINO ) and the end of the week will culminate in a solo artist talk and screening at a project space (tba)

Selected participants will receive press and exposure thru GRRL HAUS marketing and be permanently listed on our website and social media. This includes post cards and small catalogues.

During 2019 you will also have an opportunity to screen again at one of our GRRL HAUS traveling events, (with possible screenings in L.A., NY, MA, Netherlands, France, Bulgaria)
