Leonardo: When the Arts reach the Sky

The Director of Education, Exhibitions, and Programs at the Italian Cultural Center of Maryland, Gioia Milan will be the curator for the exhibitions.

Eligibility:  All artists must be 18 years of age or older.  Artists born in, living in, working in or otherwise connected to Maryland or Washington, DC, may participate. Any artist who has some Italian heritage may participate regardless of connection to Maryland or Washington, DC. A team of artists will be eligible for participation as long as one team member meets the aforementioned requirements and all members are above 18 years of age. 

PROJECT DETAILS:

Entries must be original in design, concept, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Entries that have been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) or were created by someone other than the artist are in violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted.

Entries must adhere to the exhibit standards of BWI Marshall Airport. The Italian Cultural Center of Maryland reserves the right to disqualify submissions that are deemed to include inappropriate or commercial content, including but not limited to: violence; profanity; adult content; solicitation; copyright infringement; product, organization or political endorsements; etc. Any submission that is not in accordance with these rules will be disqualified.

Submissions should be sent to https://www.judgify.me/ICCMLEO500. Any incomplete submission (one without all the required fields filled out) will not be considered valid. No submissions will be accepted via e-mail, however, questions and inquires may be submitted by e-mail only.

Completed applications will be considered only upon submission of the full $15 payment.

By submitting an entry, contestants grant non-exclusive reproduction and publication rights to the works submitted to the Italian Cultural Center of Maryland and BWI Marshall Airport. Files will not be returned.

Submitted artwork should be clearly labeled (to include the title of the work and name of the artist) on the back of the artwork. Submissions should be ready to hang if necessary. (Side brackets should be mounted and wiring should be completed if wiring is required for hanging.) Frames must be at least one-inch wide. Nielsen style metal frames are acceptable.   

A selection of the artworks presented at the two exhibitions will be granted the opportunity to travel to an exhibition that will be held in Italy in 2020.

Selected artworks for the exhibitions at BWI and at the NIAG will be available on the www.italymd.org website. Prices will be agreed upon with the artists. The Italian Cultural Center of Maryland or its representatives exclusively will handle all sales to the public while the pieces are installed and for the three months that follow.  The ICCM will retain 40% of the agreed upon price. Buyers will be asked to retrieve the artworks at the end of the four months exhibition period. The works selected to travel to Italy will be retrieved after the Italian exhibition.

 

Entry Deadline:  August 3rd, 2019. Online applications are due by 11:59 pm 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Media Type: Two-dimensional artwork in any media, not featuring nudity or overtly political in content.

Number Limit:  A maximum of three submissions per artist are permitted.

Size Limit:  Works may not exceed 72 inches in width, height, or depth (including the frame).

File Size Limit: The maximum image size per applicant is 5 MB. The following file type(s) are allowed: jpg, png, tiff. Images must be not less than 96 dpi, but no greater than 300 dpi. Only high resolution images can be used for printed publications. A size of approximately 1024x768 pixels is recommended.

Entry Fee: $15.00. Entry fees are non-refundable.
