BIG INK and Shepherd Studio are joining forces for an event that promotes the appreciation of the art of woodcut printmaking. On Sept 23rd & 24th, 2017 BIG INK will bring a 48” x 96” mobile printmaking press to Shepherd Studio. Volunteers from Big Ink will be helping pre-selected participating artists print woodcuts en plein air. The finished works will be hung in a highly visible area, creating a viewing gallery for all to enjoy.
The participating artists, who have been selected by Lyell Castonguay, director of BIG INK, will bring giant carved wood blocks that measure at least 24" x 36" in size. Visitors to the event will witness woodcuts being printed in an open forum. Handouts will be on hand to explain the process, history, and context in contemporary art. Additionally, artists who created the prints will be in attendance to network and answer questions. The prints created at BIG INK events are exhibited in university galleries, art centers and museums.
Accepted artists pay $250 in order to cover consumable materials and professional photography. BIG INK assists in the creation of four prints from your block, three for you to keep and one for the BIG INK portfolio. Artist prints are featured in our online gallery and have the potential to be included in exhibitions in the US and abroad. Our most recent exhibit was at Florida State University in Jacksonville. The prior one was at the Seoul Museum of Art, Korea. Our 2017 exhibition schedule includes venues in OK, MD, NY, NH and MA.
