Event History

The RPS International Photography Exhibition is steeped in history, having been held almost every year since 1854 - the year after The Society was founded. In the early years, the exhibition included work from some of the world's most eminent photographers including Julia Margaret Cameron, Roger Fenton and Edward Steichen.

What Makes this event different?

Now in its 162nd edition, the RPS IPE is the longest running exhibition of its kind in the world and selected photographers enjoy the kudos of being associated with one of the oldest and most prestigious photographic organisations, whose origins grew from the advent of photography. Past winners and selected photographers have felt honoured to be a part of such a historic exhibition and many have gone on to further their careers and gain exposure to their work on the back of the publicity and social media coverage of their achievement.
