Event History

Starting in 2014 through today Guttenberg Arts has hosted 33 exhibitions, 42 Artists in Residence, 32 artist talks, 22 free workshops, 2 panels and has awarded over $100,000.00 cash-in-hands stipends to both artists and arts professionals. Guttenberg Arts has partnered with over a dozen non-profit arts and community groups and is growing to serve more artists and community members for decades to come.

What Makes this event different?

Guttenberg Arts supports artists from diverse cultural, ethnic, and sexual backgrounds. Guttenberg Arts does not discriminate based on age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, or ability/disability of artists. Artwork is welcomed that reflects the lived experiences of the applicants.

The Space and Time Artist Residency at Guttenberg Arts funds artists with a $1,200.00 USD stipend. The stipend is intended for travel, material, and housing in conjunction with 24/7 shared access to a 4,500 sq. ft. professionally equipped workspace for the visual arts that includes darkroom and ceramics facilities, and printmaking for three months in Guttenberg, New Jersey (just across the Hudson River).

Artists, at the end of the residency, are given a group show, as well as studio visits from accomplished professionals from the art world. Each resident artist is required to give a free public art lecture or workshop towards the close of their three-month residency and the artists are required to spend a minimum of 15 hours a week in the studio. If you are at all unsure of your commute or have questions regarding our facilities we strongly recommend a site visit to our building. Applicants are selected by a blind jury of arts professionals on the merits of their artwork.

Guttenberg Arts is dedicated to promoting the visual arts by providing practicing artists with space and time to develop their work while engaging with the public.  Guttenberg Arts intends to increase opportunities for supported artists by expanding their community through artistic collaborations and promotion to curators and collectors in the tri-state area.
