Event History
We began the Artist in Residence Program in 2023.
2025 ACE Artist in Residence is open to the art genre of Folk and Traditional Arts. The ACE Artist in Residence Program provides an artist the opportunity to reflect, relax, and create in the inspiring mountains of Alta, Utah.
What we consider folk and traditional arts:
Folk art is a form of creative expression from the traditions and lives of specific communities or cultural groups. It includes different types of art, such as visual arts, music, dance, crafts, and storytelling, often passed down through generations. This art reflects the values and history of a community, showcasing its unique identity and culture. Typically created by those without formal training, folk art highlights the importance of community in the creative process.
National Endowment of the Arts sees folk and traditional art as:
“The folk and traditional arts are rooted in and reflective of the cultural life of a community. Community members may share a common ethnic heritage, cultural mores, language, religion, occupation, or geographic region. These vital and constantly reinvigorated artistic traditions are shaped by values and standards of excellence that are passed from generation to generation, most often within family and community, through demonstration, conversation, and practice.”
