Call to Artists.

Propeller Art Gallery seeks submissions for an exhibit of photo-based works that utilize hand-produced analog photographic processes. Part of Toronto's Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.

In order to achieve an aesthetic that is a fusion of artistic intent and physical process, artists guide the process of photographic printmaking through physical intervention. These works speak to the artists’ passion for photography and the process of manipulation and uncertainty, all of which become evident in the completed works.

Join the Propeller Art Gallery (Toronto) in a celebration of hand-made photographic prints. This exhibit will be part of the 2020 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival presented May 6th — 17th, 2020.

We accept all hand-produced analog photographic processes including, but not limited to albumen, bromoil, chromo, carbon, anthotype, argyrotype, salt print, cyanotype, gum bichromate, silver-gelatin, casein, photogravure, polymer-photogravure, platinum/palladium, wet plate collodion (tintype), van dyke brown,  solarplate, zoneplate, ziatype, kallitype, mordançage...

Two and three-dimensional works on wood, paper, metal, fabric etc. are allowed in addition to hand transfers/lifts of analog film and analog photo emulsion. Digital and analog negatives can be used in the intermediate print development process, however, digitally produced ink-jet, c-print, or silver-bromide are not acceptable as a wholly submitted final work.

Accepted works will be based on a jury selection process, and curated by Peter Friedrichsen, Frances Patella, and Tom Taylor. Artists will be notified by email of the curator’s decision.

Fees: ($50 for 3 works per sub).
