Cafozone Art Contest 2021

Add to Favorites Report Listing

Event History

This contest was first launched in 2020 and we received more than 25 entries from 4 continents. The judges are art lovers who while they may be professional artists, are also activists in the area of sustainable agriculture, with a deep understanding of the strategies of industrialized corporations to take over markets and put small farms out of business. By "CAFO" we mean "Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation," which is a system that houses animals inside giant buildings, with waste going into pits open to the environment. In 2021, we are hopeful that the winning presentations will create an emotional response in the viewer. An art piece might wake people up to the health, environmental, and cruelty problems or it might present the positive, like a pile of cheap bacon. The only firm requirement is that artists do not break laws known as ag-gag laws that have been created to keep people out of CAFOs. Each state has different laws passed to protect CAFOs.

What Makes this event different?

This is the only competition that focuses on animal agriculture. There is a lot of news about disease and especially Covid 19 in workers in CAFOs, which might be something to portray. You can learn a lot more by cruising through our website, cafozone.com.

Copyright Policy

Prize money represents sale of the piece to CC's Farm-O-Sphere, LLC. The pieces that win this contest will become part of the public domain, meaning “the state of belonging or being available to the public as a whole, and therefore not subject to copyright.” We will make every effort to publicize the winners and to be sure that the artist’s name is included when the winning work is displayed. If you wish your work to be anonymous, we will keep your name unknown.

Image Usage Rights

At present, since there has been a shutdown of conferences due to Covid-19, the 2020 pieces are on display in an office but have not been seen by the general public except on our website cafozone.com. We are creating an exhibit that will travel to conferences involved in sustainability and we are looking for art that can inspire others. We hope that the contest engenders art that will be shared and used to illustrate publications like newsletters by non-profits. The pieces that win this contest, therefore, becomes part of the public domain, meaning “the state of belonging or being available to the public as a whole, and therefore not subject to copyright.” We will make every effort to publicize the winners and to be sure that the artist’s name is included when the winning work is displayed. If you wish your work to be anonymous, we will keep your name unknown.
