Call for Stone Carvers: Halloween Parade Monument features Batman

Email Friend Add to Favorites Report Listing

Tom Fagan, a journalist and book editor, was involved in Rutland’s legendary parade from its start in 1959. He launched a superhero theme the second year, which helped build the parade from a small local attraction into a nationally recognized phenomenon. Fagan’s friends in the comic book industry traveled from around the country to Vermont to attend, and showcased the parade in nearly two dozen comic books featuring BatmanTM and many other superheroes.

A 1/3 scale maquette has been sculpted and features two three-quarter round figures in the foreground (Tom Fagan in costume and BatmanTM) with an array of parade participants in relief behind them. The finished sculpture size will be approximately life size after being enlarged and carved in marble at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center.

The Batman character, likeness and related elements are TM & © by DC and used with permission.
