Event History

The Chianciano Biennale is organised by the Chianciano Museum and is located in the heart of Tuscany, taking place from Saturday 6th - Sunday 28th August 2022. The Chianciano Art Museum has been showcasing thousands of international artworks for over a decade, making this 2022 exhibition the 7th edition of the Biennale. The Chianciano Biennale is a part of a network comprising the thirteen Clancianum Galleries and the Art Museum in the town of Chianciano, all coordinated by Gagliardi Gallery. During the 2022 Biennale, artists and attendees alike will roam through the galleries to soak up the permanent collections, the Biennale and other summer exhibitions on display in Chianciano. The hundreds of attendees are made up of critics, international artists, collectors and above all, a new audience and atmosphere to let your artworks expand in. The cluster of galleries are located up on the hill of the Medieval Old Town, falling back on stretches of the rich green and gold landscape that Tuscany breathes.

What Makes this event different?

Encompassing over 100 artists and artworks, the Chianciano Biennale artworks will be meticulously hung across a cluster of the Clancianum Galleries and the Art Museum. The remaining walls of the Clancianum Galleries and the Art Museum will glow with a showcasing of seven other exhibitions ranging from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec at the Savoy Gallery to Giorgio Armani at the Chelsea Gallery. The full list of exhibitions and their details can be found on the Chianciano Biennale website. There are no submission requirements for the Chianciano Biennale, the applications are open to all living artists without discrimination and wholly on the basis of the artwork itself. Great art has never been limited to established powers, therefore our application process is the same- no requirements, just submit the artwork you feel best represents you. The selection process is rigorous and allows critics and collectors to admire works of excellent quality both in the Art Museum and in the Clancianum Galleries, where contemporary art creates a magnificent contrast with the historic architecture of the medieval town. Chianciano and its surrounding areas are saturated in the richness of European history. The town of Chianciano Terme dates back millennia to the Etruscans and Romans and nestled amongst some of Italy’s most important locations for culture and nature. From Chiancinano visitors can see the Cetona and Amiata mountain peaks amongst the hills of century old beech trees. Cities of global importance are just an adventure away including Montepulciano, Siena, Florence and Rome.
