Call for Entry for a Juried Exhibition
In 1937, The Degenerate Art exhibition (Die Ausstellung "Entartete Kunst") was conceived and held in Nazi Germany. It is there that the party propagandists portrayed, mocked, and vilified the works of renowned modern artists as evidence of criminality and deviance.
Nonetheless, the event was popular with spectators, and more popular than the accompanying state-sponsored exhibition that intended to display the more classical type of art advocated by the regime.
In contemporary context, one could suspect that a passionate photographer possesses the motive, means, and opportunity to capture the debaucherous image. What is your interpretation of "degenerate," and how does your work oppose the blasé mainstream narrative preferred by the state and status quo?
