CALL FOR ENTRIES | THE STILL LIFE | AN INTERNATIONAL JURIED PHOTO EXHIBITION

THEME: THE STILL LIFE  |  JUROR: ANN JASTRAB

More so than other types of photography, still life photography such as landscape or portraiture gives the photographer tremendous leeway and exact control over the arrangement of design elements within a composition. It is a demanding genre. Photographers are expected to form their work with a refined sense of lighting, coupled with composition and design skills. The still life photographer makes pictures rather than takes them

The Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that is investigating the genre of Still Life. Photographic submissions can explore classical to conceptual aspects of the still life, these can be object arrangements that intrigue, engage or entertain the viewer. All subject matters, all genres, capture types, color and black & white, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

JUROR | ANN JASTRAB

Executive Director for The Center for Photographic Art, Ann Jastrab, is a champion of photographic artists. After she earned her MFA in photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995, she joined the resident faculty at the Maine Photographic Workshops and taught there for nearly a decade in both their year-round program and their intensive summer workshops. Prior to taking the position of executive director of CPA, she curated many exhibitions for RayKo during her tenure as gallery director - while also jurying, curating, and organizing numerous exhibitions for other national and international venues outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has served on numerous boards and fundraising committees and has been thrilled to bring her talents, passion, and leadership skills to The Center for Photographic Arts. Besides being a curator and an educator, Ann is a writer and editor and she is also a fine art photographer who still carries around a wooden view camera…and a metal one too.
