Event History

Thorsgata Creative Residency was founded in 2018 by Margrét Ann Thors, a half-Icelandic writer of fiction and nonfiction, and Óskar Bragi Stefánsson, an Icelandic law student and sometime-filmmaker. The residency hosts artists from all over the world in various stages of their creative careers. We welcome applications from artists working in any and all mediums, and hold a special place in our hearts for new and established writers. Our goal is to provide a tranquil, evocative residence for creators to do their best work. Every now and then, the Icelandic elves lend a hand.

Thorsgata Creative Residency provides an evocative space for artists around the globe to work on their craft and develop their creative careers. The residence is located in the heart of historic downtown Reykjavík, mere steps from the city's main attractions and a stone's throw from the intense natural wonders that define the Icelandic landscape.

The mission of the residency is to offer an artistic dwelling within one of the world's most inspirational, creative, and artistically prolific communities. We welcome applications from artists working in all media, with a special devotion to emerging and established writers.

Residents are welcome for stays of between one and four weeks. Exceptions can be made for those wishing to stay longer, based on applications and compelling artistic reasons for an extended stay.
