Event History

This is BWAC’s third RECYCLE show. It will be mounted in our unique gallery space in a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. This enormous space gives us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it!

What Makes this event different?

Our juror for RECYCLE 2018 is John Cloud Kaiser, the Director of Education at Materials for the Arts, which is one of the largest reuse centers in the U.S and a program of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Through art shows, Kaiser curates at MFTA Gallery and his work with his art group Free Style Arts Association, he has been championing reuse-themed art in the museums, streets, and schools of New York City since 2000. These artworks have appeared broadly, from The Metropolitan Museum, to The New York Times, to the NYC Parks Dept. Kaiser graduated from NY University and is currently working on a series of temporary sculptures for Storm King Sculpture Center and Socrates Sculpture Park.

Image Usage Rights

Any image submitted may be used for marketing and promotional purposes directly related to this show. This use may include publication in any publications, printed materials, advertisements, or electronic media. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.

Art call for Artists.

BWAC seeks original artwork from artists working in re-purposed materials. Entries must incorporate at least 50 percent of recycled, re-purposed, or reused materials. The theme is open to any medium that results in a 2-Dimensional or 3-Dimensional work.

Show Dates: May 12- June 17, 2018

We are looking for skill in the use of material, and we want to see art that demonstrates the importance of conserving our limited natural resources. We are looking for both how well the medium relates to the up-cycling movement and how fully the artist’s concept or intention is presented and realized. The juror’s awards will reflect that artistic judgment.
