Event History
Elsewhere Studios became a non-profit in 2014 and has been an artist residency since 2011. Over a 160 artists from 28 states and 12 countries, have been hosted including visual artists, writers, composers, videographers, and performance artists.
What Makes this event different?
Elsewhere is situated in the heart of the small town of Paonia, Colorado. It is located at the base of Lamborn Mountain in the West Elks on the western slope of the Rockies. The town has a population of 1500, and the surrounding mesas has an additional population of 5000. It is surrounded by farms, orchards, and vineyards. For decades Paonia has attracted artists, organic/biodynamic farmers and community minded folks. The result is a community of strong individuals, who have an interest in sustainable lifestyles, and a growing art scene where the desert and mountains meet. When you first drive into town and see the two blocks of main street, it can be difficult to believe that this little town supports such a vibrant community.
ELSEWHERE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Elsewhere Studios Artist Residency Program invites artists to create in a unique and supportive environment where space and time are provided for creativity. Residency stays are based on individual needs and range from 1 to 6 months. Four to six artists can be accomodated at a time. We welcome artists, performance artists, writers, and composers at all stages in their careers as well as scientists, teachers, activists, students, or any kind of creative thinker interested in exploring and expanding their work. Elsewhere provides a choose-your-own-adventure style residency. Located in downtown Paonia, the spaces are versatile and provide residents with opportunities to connect with the community… or time to simply focus on work. The residency includes an equipped woodshop onsite, printing access, a ceramics co-op as well as performance space upon request.
SPACES
To create art in a unique and supportive environment, Elsewhere offers four artistically crafted and unique residency spaces. Two spaces include living and studio space combined, and two share studio space. There is a monthly residency fee that includes living and studio space, utilities and WiFi.
