Event History
The fifth RECYCLE show by BWAC will be mounted in our unique gallery – a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. This enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it!
What Makes this event different?
John Cloud Kaiser is the juror for RECYCLE 2019. He is the Director of Education at Materials for the Arts, which is one of the largest reuse centers in the U.S and a program of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Since 2000, through art shows he curates at MFTA Gallery and his work with his art group Free Style Arts Association, he champions reuse-themed art in the museums, streets, and schools of New York City. These works have appeared broadly, from The Metropolitan Museum, to the NYC Parks Dept., to The New York Times. Kaiser graduated from New York University and is currently working on a series of temporary sculptures for Storm King Sculpture Center and Socrates Sculpture Park. Kaiser was recently awarded the 2018 Arts Administrator of Year by the NYC Art Teachers Association.

BWAC seeks skill in the use of material and art that demonstrates the importance of conserving our limited natural resources. We are looking for how well the medium relates to the upcycling movement and how fully the artist’s intention or concept is presented and realized. The juror’s awards will reflect that artistic judgment.
BWAC seeks original artwork from artists working in repurposed materials. Entries must incorporate at least 50 percent of recycled, repurposed or reused materials. The theme is open to any medium resulting in 2-Dimensional or 3-Dimensional work.
