Event History
Main Street Covington was established in 1988 to enhance the quality of life for the City of Covington residents through revitalization of the downtown district. The Main Street program utilizes the Main Street Four-Point Approach, a guiding set of principles for downtown management as set forth by the National Main Street Center, a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Four-Point Approach includes Design, Organization, Promotions and Economic Restructuring. Main Street has standing committees assigned to execute the tasks of each of the four points. Main Street Covington is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of residents, professionals, civic and non-profit agencies, and property and business owners. Main Street Covington is committed to promoting and developing a downtown district which has a thriving economy and is a cultural center for the community. The Main Street program is designed to improve all aspects of the downtown or central business district, producing both tangible and intangible benefits. Improving economic management, strengthening public participation, and making downtown a fun place to visit.
What Makes this event different?
Main Street Covington is particularly interested in site specific artwork with potential to: celebrate Covington’s rich history, introduce color, serve as a backdrop for photos, and provide an invitation for spectators to become part of Downtown Covington’s experience. The piece must be durable and suitable for outdoors with the ability to withstand the elements of the local climate as well as interaction with the public.
