Event History
The award was created in the memory of Rebecca Vassie, who was a British photographer and photojournalist who died suddenly at age 30 while on assignment in Uganda in March of 2015.
What Makes this event different?
We support early-to-mid career photographers who live in or are from the UK, who have multiple credits and excellent portfolios, and who are working professionally but who are not yet earning a full living from this kind of photography. This excludes BA (undergraduate) students and 2017 graduates. The bursary is available to photographers from a range of disciplines, editorial to fine art. We warmly encourage applicants of all identities and backgrounds.
The Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award, with a bursary of £1,250, is for an early career UK photographer in order to complete a photographic project documenting lesser-known communities and peoples: ‘human stories we seldom see.’
