Event History

SplashFest! is a new festival born from a shared passion for ocean storytelling that first took shape between Bracciano in Italy and the Greek coast. What began as a small creative initiative has now expanded to include partners and events in the UK and Germany, evolving into a four-country celebration of environmental creativity and education.

What Makes this event different?

SplashFest! is one of the few international eco-creative festivals where visual art stands at the heart of the programme, alongside film, storytelling and youth-led conservation projects. Art Splash! — our visual arts and recycled-creations competition — offers artists a dedicated platform for works inspired by the ocean, climate and sustainability. The festival’s visual-arts programme is shaped collaboratively by our team together with the SIFCA Art Centre in Greece and Bracciano Art Week in Italy, ensuring a rich blend of artistic vision and environmental focus. SplashFest! is also distinct in its multi-country format, taking place simultaneously in Greece, Italy, the UK and Germany. This structure provides artists with exposure across four creative landscapes rather than just one, expanding their reach to diverse audiences, schools, cultural spaces and environmental networks. Alongside Art Splash!, the festival hosts the Ripple Reel Award (short films), the Ocean Scroll Award (stories and comics) and the Blue Voice Youth Challenge — creating a genuinely cross-disciplinary home for creators who want their work to inspire awareness and action. SplashFest! doesn’t simply present art, it connects creativity with conservation in a way few festivals do.

Art Splash! is the visual-heartbeat of SplashFest!, a multi-country eco-creative festival celebrating the deep connection between art and the planet. The ocean is full of colour, texture and movement, and this competition invites artists to explore these themes in any style or medium. Whether you paint stormy seas, sculpt from reclaimed materials, capture the quiet life beneath the waves through a photograph or explore climate anxiety in an abstract digital piece, Art Splash! embraces the full spectrum of visual expression. This section also reflects the spirit of Bubble Buddies Bay — an educational world created to help children learn about the ocean through playful storytelling. That same blend of curiosity, fun and environmental care runs through Art Splash!, encouraging artists to inspire wonder while raising awareness.

The competition is open to artists of all ages and nationalities, from young creators experimenting with recycled cardboard to established artists exploring complex ecological narratives. What matters is the vision: your artwork should connect to the ocean, water systems or the wider environment through beauty, fragility, urgency or hope. We welcome pieces that speak to sustainability, conservation, climate awareness or the emotional and cultural significance of the natural world. Coral reefs, riverbanks, shorelines, microscopic marine life, mythological creatures, human stories and imagined futures all have a place here, as long as the work reflects your connection with water and the planet.

Artists may submit up to three original artworks. Accepted formats include painting, drawing, illustration, photography, sculpture, mixed media, recycled or upcycled art, digital work, collage, 3D creations and AI-assisted pieces (with clear disclosure). Submissions must include high-quality photographs of each artwork. Physical pieces are not required initially; if selected for exhibition, we will contact you directly to coordinate safe transport. Artists remain responsible for shipping, but the festival team will provide guidance to ensure works travel securely.

Art Splash! offers international visibility to environmentally engaged artists. SplashFest! takes place simultaneously in Greece, Italy, the UK and Germany, enabling selected creators to reach audiences across four distinct cultural contexts. The festival’s visual arts programme is developed with the SIFCA Art Centre in Greece and Bracciano Art Week in Italy, two partners committed to artistic dialogue and environmental thought. Selected artworks will be displayed during the festival as part of the Bubble Buddies Bay Online Art Gallery, ensuring global accessibility and ongoing visibility.
