We call for applications from artists, cultural workers, creators, experimenters, the powerful and the loving! From 10 – 11 July, a temporary festival for city, culture and art will take place at the site of the former state parliament on Brauhausberg.
THE POWER OF LOVE opens up the dominant architecture overlooking the city to explore questions about the future of a different, more equal way of living together – and the potential of love as a political practice.
FROM “KREML” TO CAMPUS
The former state parliament, commonly referred to as the “Kreml”, is deeply inscribed in the city. Elevated, highly visible. Built around 1900 under Wilhelm II, it has been used for over a century as a site of political power – from military use to the SED district leadership and later the state parliament.
After temporary use as refugee accommodation, vacancy, fire and decay, new plans are now emerging: the site is to become an open campus.
We are looking for artistic positions that engage with the future of this place – and with that of our society.
A site once defined by power, order and hierarchy is set to become a space for the public and for education. What does that mean in practice?
How does a place of separation become a place of encounter?

We are looking for works that engage with “The Power of Love” and consider the site, its history and its current transformation: questioning it, shifting it or reinterpreting it.
The former state parliament is currently under construction. Interior spaces are only accessible as part of guided tours, and only limited areas may be used as exhibition spaces. We are explicitly also looking for projects in the outdoor space and on the façade.
An optional site visit for interested artists is planned. The date is scheduled for the end of April and will be communicated upon request.
