Pastel Art Call – Material and Color Exhibition | Manifest Gallery
Manifest, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit arts organization and gallery, invites visual artists and designers to submit original work exploring pastel as material and/or color. Open to all traditional and non-traditional media.
Pastel is a historic medium—pigment bound into a soft, dusty form that bridges painting and drawing. Its application produces luminous, layered marks that shift between line, tone, and surface, balancing precision with softness.
The term “pastel” also describes a distinct color range, often associated with muted, high-key tones found in spring light, dyed eggs, and softened atmospheres. These hues can evoke calm, harmony, and subtle emotional resonance.
Whether used as a physical medium or a conceptual color palette, pastels offer a wide range of expressive possibilities, from delicate and restrained to rich and intense. This exhibition welcomes diverse interpretations of pastel across contemporary practice.
