Event History

As an outcome of the the popularity of last year’s exhibition, this art call is now being extended nationally and is open to all artists living or working in the United States. Only original alternative process prints will be accepted for exhibition. Digital prints do not qualify. All photographs must be original works of art and entirely the work of the entrant. Accepted submissions will be exhibited at The Image Flow in Mill Valley, CA.

2nd Annual Alternative Process Photography Exhibition

Eligibility: All artists living or working in the United States working in alternative photographic processes.

Artists are invited to submit work to The Image Flow for their second annual group exhibition of alternative process photography. Platinum, cyanotype, gum bichromate, palladium, van dyke, ambrotype, photogravure, tintype, wet plate collodion, daguerreotype, transfers and lifts, hand-painted, salt-prints, original lumens, and any combination of alternative process photography will be considered. The Image Flow looks forward to seeing your wonderful alternative process work!

Only the original alternative process prints will be accepted for exhibition. No digital prints will be accepted. All entries must be original works of art and must be entirely the work of the entrant. Accepted entries will be exhibited at The Image Flow in Mill Valley, CA.

Registration & Fees

$25 registration fee. Artists may submit up to 5 images for review once registered.

Jurors

Since 1972 Max Kellenberger, a native of Switzerland, has been exhibiting photographic work in the United States and Europe . He has extensive experience in alternative process printing as well as traditional silver-gelatin darkroom printing. Kellenberger's recent photography exhibitions include two solo shows at Corden|Potts and Gallery 16 in San Francisco, Blues at Smith Andersen North in San Anselmo, One: Unique Photographs at Klompching in Brooklyn, NY, and Four Photographers at TUTTI ART lucerne in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Max is a recipient of the 20×24 Camera Grant from Polaroid and the winner of the Golden Light Award from the Maine Photographic Workshop as well as a professional Photographers Award from The Santa Fe Workshops. His images are in numerous private collections, such as those of Graham Nash and Joaquim Paiva as well as in major collections such as the Polaroid Collection and the Lucerne State Collection.

Max Kellenberger resides in San Francisco, CA.

Mark Nelson is a photographer and master printmaker from Elgin, IL. He works with photopolymer gravure and the platinum/palladium methods and he teaches workshops in these processes using his own Precision Digital Negative/Positive system.  Mark has taught hundreds of photographers the PDN workflow and has been consulted by renowned artists including Sally Mann, Beth Moon and Flor Garduño. Mark developed the Precision Digital Negatives system. He is the author of Precision Digital Negatives for Silver and Other Alternative Photographic Processes. Mark created and wrote Curve Calculator III, which is the best possible way to easily generate curves for alternative processes.  He is currently working on a new book about photopolymer gravure and Precision Digital Positives.
