Kathy Blankley Roman and Dan Addington are the jurors.

After 5 years of successful shows, including: Hot Wax in the City, Wax(N)Blue and Unbound(ed), FUSEDChicago member Kathy Blankley Roman returns once again to jury our 6th annual encaustic exhibition. An award winning artist, her expressive paintings have appeared in shows nationally, online and in numerous private collections since 2011. Using acrylics, encaustic or oil & cold wax, Roman is a process painter. She prefers a limited palette and works in layers, employing contrasts of texture, opacity and often calligraphic marks, to create tension and a sense of depth and history. She "turns chaos into its own kind of order...almost like a dance. Her paintings move and that's what makes the viewer feel involved with the work."

Dan is an artist and gallery owner who has worked with wax since 1989 and he has been exhibiting encaustic work professionally since 1992. His artwork has been featured in solo and group shows across the US, and  in numerous public and private collections.  He is owner and director of Addington Gallery, which is located in Chicago’s historic River North art district. The gallery has included encaustic painters in exhibitions since organizing their first national encaustic exhibition in 1996.  Dan's own figurative work incorporates materials such as fabric, wax, oil, tar, gold leaf and various printed matter. The layering and accumulation of these materials echoes his interest in history and the relationships between the stratification of cultures and the layering of memory. Dan seeks to engage the viewer through their own process of physical and spiritual excavation.

Entry fee: $25 for three (3) images, $5 for each additional image, limited to six total per person. The fee is non-refundable.
