Animalia: Our Shared World
PhotoPlace Gallery invites photographers to submit work for Animalia: Our Shared World, a juried exhibition celebrating the diversity of animal life and the creatures with whom we share our world.
From beloved companions and backyard visitors to wildlife, birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and marine life, animals inspire wonder, curiosity, and connection. Photographs may explore their beauty, character, behavior, and relationships, including life in the wild, intimate moments with domestic animals, and the connections between animals, people, and the natural world.
All photographic genres and processes are welcome.
Juror: Wendi Schneider
Wendi Schneider is an American artist known for States of Grace, an ongoing series of hand-gilded photographs begun in 2012. Drawing on her background in painting and art history, she creates atmospheric images of the natural world that explore beauty, impermanence, and the expressive possibilities of the photographic print.
Her process combines layered color and texture with translucent vellum or Japanese kozo paper, gilded on the reverse with precious metals. Her practice grew from early experiments combining photography and painting and continues to explore surface, light, and depth.
Schneider’s work has been exhibited and published internationally and is held in permanent collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Center for Creative Photography; the New Orleans Museum of Art; the Royal Photographic Society; the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; the Asheville Art Museum; and Auburn University Libraries Special Collections.
She is represented by galleries in the United States, Mexico, and Israel and serves on the Advisory Council of the Colorado Photographic Arts Center.
