Event History

The Arte Laguna Prize is an International Contemporary Art and Design Prize that was founded in 2006 in Venice by the Cultural Association MoCA. The Prize aims to support and promote creativity by fostering a network of talents and presenting opportunities at an international level thanks to the collaboration with Foundations, Museums, Galleries, Art Residencies, Companies. The outcome of these international partnerships is a range of special projects that turn into concrete opportunities of growth and act as a catalyst for the artists’ professional careers. Since the year 2010 the finalists, selected by the international jury, get the opportunity to exhibit in one of the most renowned location in the art world, the Arsenale Nord, a sixteenth-century venue in the heart of Venice that was once the great shipyard of the Serenissima Republic and still retains the charm of industrial archaeology.

What Makes this event different?

What makes this event unique is a great variety of prizes and opportunities that are offered to the artist. By submitting an application to the Arte Laguna Prize artists get the chance to: collaborate with international partners; get free visibility on the art platform artelaguna.world; win cash prizes of a total amount of 30.000€; exhibit in the iconic spaces of the Arsenale of Venice.

The Arte Laguna Prize, which is an International Contemporary Arte and Design Prize founded in 2006 in Venice, is back with a new Jury, a prestigious Advisory Council and a group of international Ambassadors. 

The Arte Laguna Prize gives artists the opportunity to join a large network of collaborations around the world, get free visibility on the online platform artelaguna.world, win cash prizes for a total amount of € 30,000, exhibit in the iconic spaces of the Arsenale Nord in Venice.

The Prize is open to the following artistic disciplines:

Painting, sculpture and installation, photographic art, video art and short films, performance, digital art, digital graphics and cartoon, land art, and urban art and street art, art design.

THE JURY

The international jury changes with each edition in order to have new perspectives and offer a 360° overview of contemporary art. The jury is composed of important curators and directors of museums operating in different countries.

Nathalie Angles (United States) - Founder and executive director of Residency Unlimited
Lorenzo Balbi (Italy) - Artistic director at MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna
Marcus Fairs (United Kingdom) - Founder and editor-in-chief of Dezeen
Matteo Galbiati (Italy) - Art critic and curator
Sophie Goltz (Singapore and Austria) - Curator and educator
Toshiyuki Kita (Japan) – Japanese Designer, honoured with the ADI Lifetime Achievement Award “Compasso d’Oro alla carriera internazionale”
Beate Reifenscheid (Germany) – Director of Ludwig Museum Koblenz and President of ICOM Germany

The jurors will select 120 artists to exhibit at the Arsenale Nord in Venice from March 13th to April 5th, 2021. A double exhibition with the finalist of the 14th and 14th editions: 240 artworks in 4,000 sqm.

Among the exhibited works, the jury will be identifying 3 absolute winners who will win the cash prizes of € 10,000 each.

THE SPECIAL PRIZES

Each year Arte Laguna Prize collaborates with high-level international partners to offer artists opportunities around the world, creating partnerships that act as a catalyst for their professional careers. Each partner will choose an artist for the following special prizes:

- 5 Art residencies
- 1 Business for Art
- 5 Art galleries
- 3 Festivals and exhibitions
- 3 Art platforms
- 1 Sustainability and Art Prize

Applications have no restrictions, they are open to all artists. The deadline is November 27th, 2020.
