ARTIST CALL OUT - Small Print International 6 Touring Exhibition

DEADLINE: Tuesday 24th March 2020

For our sixth edition, Leicester Print Workshop is inviting artists to create work inspired by the first Aerogramme. This was introduced into the Iraqi postal service in 1933 by the Inspector General of Posts and Telegraphs. For many years, the aerogramme remained the cheapest form of international communication, and people often went to extreme lengths to make the best use of the space available, including writing in different colours, in different directions, and printing directly onto the aerogrammes. Self-adhesive strips along the edges of the paper allowed it to be folded and sealed, and therefore private, without the added weight of an envelope.

Submissions for the exhibition are invited from artists working in any printmaking technique. Work can respond to the literal context of the aerogramme, or take a more lateral approach.

Our definition of print is: an impression made by any method involving a physical transfer from one surface to another, therefore we would not accept digital / giclee prints.

The exhibition will be selected by Julia Carver (Curator, Visual Art, Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, UK) and Raimi Gbadamosi (Head of Fine Art, De Montfort University, UK).

This touring exhibition will begin at Leicester Print Workshop from 30 May – 29 August 2020, alongside our second Leicester Print Fair on 11 July 2020, before touring to other venues, with more venues TBC.
