Richmond Hill’s Artist in Residence (AiR) Program supports community-engaged artistic practices that animate civic life across the City. Through temporary installations, participatory programming, exhibitions, performances, and media presentations, the program fosters cultural vibrancy, placemaking, and intercultural exchange while supporting artists’ professional growth. This residency supports community-engaged artistic practice, along with opportunities for public engagement. Call for Entries: Fall 2026 Artist in Residence Program

The City of Richmond Hill invites professional artists to apply for the Fall 2026 Artist in Residence Program, a public art residency offering the opportunity to create a visual identity for the new Richmond Hill Cultural Centre.

Designed to activate public spaces through contemporary art, the residency supports artists in developing original work that engages the community while enhancing the City's cultural landscape. The selected artist will create a cohesive public art project that connects interior and exterior spaces through a unified artistic vision.

Residency Opportunity

The selected Artist in Residence will design and create:

  • One hand-painted interior mural for the Richmond Hill Cultural Centre boardroom

  • Two complementary exterior street-pole banners that extend the artwork into the surrounding streetscape

Together, these works will establish a cohesive visual experience that reflects the spirit of the Cultural Centre and its connection to the community.

The Artist in Residence Program encourages artists to create engaging public artwork that transforms shared spaces into meaningful cultural experiences while fostering community connection through art.

Application Deadline: August 17, 2026.
