Event History
The ESFF was launched in 2011 and 2026 is the 16th edition. The Edinburgh Short Film Festival is a specialist short film festival that screens 9-10 nights of short film in Edinburgh every year, beginning in early November. The festival has brought some of the best contemporary Scottish, UK and international short films to the Scottish capital since its inception. This year’s event opens November 6th and closes on Sunday November 22nd with a closing night party and awards ceremony. The ESFF is BIFA qualifying and has longstanding links with our partner festivals, including Budapest Short Film Festival, the Adriatic Film Festival, Shortcutz Amsterdam, FICBUEU in Spain, as well as holding screenings at other arts and film events across Scotland. We also hold film production masterclasses, Script Pitching Competitions, Networking Sessions, Interviews and we're also making awards for Best Film and Best Animation. We also hold Q and A's with visiting directors and nightly networking events. Each year we curate screenings of some of our best short films for international festivals around the world.
