What Makes this event different?

Each residency is unique. Residencies are organized by Museum staff members and are catered to each artist’s strengths and interests. Artists will be expected to participate in outreach or educational programs over the course of their residency and are given the opportunity to teach hands-on workshops to a variety of audience types. Artists will be expected to keep regular open studio hours for a minimum of two days a week over the course of the residency during the Museum’s open hours so visitors can observe and engage with the resident artist. The program supports artists by providing a studio space, living space, honorarium, as well as networking and outreach opportunities.  

Call for Entries: Woodson Art Museum Artist Residency

The Woodson Art Museum invites visual artists to apply for its Artist Residency Program, an opportunity to develop new work while engaging with the community through public programs, workshops, and educational outreach. Located at the Glass Box Studio on the Museum's campus in Wausau, Wisconsin, the residency provides artists with dedicated time, creative space, and meaningful opportunities to share their artistic practice.

The Glass Box Studio is designed to support experimentation, exploration, and the creation of individually developed or collaborative artwork in any medium. Each residency is tailored to the selected artist, allowing participants to build on their unique interests, creative strengths, and artistic goals while connecting with audiences throughout north central Wisconsin.

The residency program provides:

• Studio space at the Glass Box Studio

• Living accommodations

• Networking opportunities

• Community engagement and outreach experiences

Artists will work closely with Museum staff to develop programming that reflects their practice and interests. Throughout the residency, participants will engage with visitors through educational programs, outreach activities, and hands-on workshops for a variety of audiences.

Resident artists are also expected to maintain regular open studio hours for at least two days each week during Museum operating hours, providing visitors with the opportunity to observe the creative process, ask questions, and interact directly with the artist.

The Woodson Art Museum Artist Residency offers visual artists the opportunity to create new work, expand their professional network, and foster meaningful connections with the community through art.
