BIG INK has partnered with The Ink Shop for an upcoming event that promotes appreciation for the art of woodcut printmaking. On Aug 26th & 27th, 2017 BIG INK will bring a 48” x 96” mobile printmaking press to The Ink Shop. Volunteers from BIG INK will be helping pre-selected participating artists to print woodcuts en plein air. The finished prints are going to be hung in a highly visible area, creating a viewing gallery for all to enjoy.
Lyell Castonguay, director of BIG INK, is selecting the participating artists. Selected artists will bring giant carved wood blocks measuring at least 24" x 36" in size. Workshop visitors will see woodcuts being printed in an open forum. Documentation will explain the history, process, and context in contemporary art. Additionally, the artists who created the work will be in attendance to network and answer questions. Prints created at BIG INK events are exhibited in university galleries, art centers and museums.
Accepted artists will pay $275 to cover consumable materials and professional photography. BIG INK assists in the creation of four prints from your block, three for you to keep and one for the BIG INK portfolio. Your print gets featured in our online gallery and has the potential to be included in exhibitions in the US and abroad. The most recent exhibit was at Florida State University in Jacksonville. The one prior was in Seoul Museum of Art, Korea. Our 2017 exhibition schedule includes venues in OK, MD, NY, NH and MA.
