Call for Entry for The Human Experience
PhotoPlace Gallery invites photographers to submit work for The Human Experience, a juried exhibition exploring the richness, complexity, and diversity of human life.
Exploring What It Means to Be Human
The exhibition welcomes a broad interpretation of the theme, including portraits, street photography, documentary work, current affairs, family, labor, culture, identity, community, and the places we inhabit.
Photographs may explore the ordinary or extraordinary, the personal or collective, and the joyful, difficult, or complex realities of human life. Work may be documentary or conceptual, quiet or dramatic, focused directly on people or on the places, events, and traces of human presence that tell our stories.
Juror: Meredith Fleischer
Meredith Fleischer is the founder of The MF Gallery in Royal Oak, Michigan, and Director of The Detroit 15, an archival photography institution. She holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has worked in the New York photography market, managing legacy portfolios of internationally recognized photographers. She also offers portfolio reviews for photographers at various stages of their artistic practice.
Exhibition and Recognition
Fleischer will select up to 35 images for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont, and another 40 images for the Online Gallery.
All 75 selected images will be:
Published in the exhibition catalog
Featured permanently in the PhotoPlace Gallery online exhibition
Promoted through PhotoPlace Gallery’s social media channels with links to the photographer’s website
Selected artists may also receive Juror’s Awards, Director’s Awards, and Honorable Mentions.
Entry Guidelines
The entry fee is $39 for up to 5 images, with an additional $6 per image thereafter.
File format: JPG or JPEG
Maximum file size: 5MB
Resolution: Approximately 2100 pixels on the longest side; 300 ppi recommended
Color space: sRGB recommended for both black-and-white and color images
Compression: 7–8 quality setting in Photoshop or equivalent
Submission: All entries must be uploaded through the online submission form
Timeline
Submission deadline: October 5, 2026
Notification of acceptance: October 20, 2026
Print deadline: November 20, 2026
Exhibition: December 4–26, 2026
COPYRIGHT & USAGE:
Photographers retain full copyright and all rights to their submitted images. Selection for a PhotoPlace Gallery exhibition does not in any way transfer ownership or copyright to PhotoPlace Gallery.
If one or more of your images are selected by the juror for exhibition, you grant PhotoPlace Gallery a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the selected image(s) solely for the following purposes:
- Reproduction in the printed and/or digital exhibition catalog
- Display on the PhotoPlace Gallery website and exhibition pages
- Promotion of the current and future exhibitions via social media, email newsletters, and other gallery-related marketing, with credit to the photographer wherever feasible
This license is limited to promotion and documentation of the exhibit and does not permit any commercial sale, licensing, or use beyond these purposes without your explicit written permission.
