- Days Remaining 79
THE JOURNEY is not about artworks. It is about the lives behind them.
Every artist experiences things that never become part of an exhibition: unexpected encounters, mistakes, failures, changes of plans, lucky coincidences, personal events, travels, doubts, discoveries, relationships, separations, moments of joy, periods of crisis, or simply ordinary days that somehow changed everything.
These stories often disappear, leaving only the finished work visible.
THE JOURNEY exists to collect and publish them.
THE JOURNEY is a free online and printed zine dedicated to everything that happens in an artist's life while being an artist: all those experiences, events and detours that cannot be exhibited, curated or fully revealed through the artwork itself.
We are interested in the person behind the practice.
What to submit
Share an experience, an episode, a secret, a failure, a rumour, a memory or a fragment of your life that you feel belongs to your journey as an artist.
It may be connected to an artwork, but it does not have to be.
It can be dramatic, funny, intimate, absurd, moving, embarrassing or completely ordinary. It can be a story that changed your life, or something that seemed insignificant at the time but stayed with you.
You are free to choose how to tell it.
You may submit photographs, snapshots, screenshots, diary pages, notes, messages, letters, drawings, documents, archive material, short texts, long texts, or any combination of these.
The important thing is not the artwork.
The important thing is what happened to you.
Examples
For the first issue, one Ukrainian artist recounted how he woke up one morning to find his home surrounded by the military, and from that day found himself trapped inside.
Another artist shared the story of his first solo exhibition, when he suddenly realised he had no idea how to install the show and ended up asking friends to help him.
These are the kinds of stories THE JOURNEY is looking for: the invisible side of being an artist.
Participation is free.
