Event History
For 12 years the PleinAir Salon Art Competition has been awarding cash prizes and promoting artists. In the spirit of the French Salon that was created by the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, this annual competition has 11 monthly cycles that lead to the annual Salon Grand Prize winners. The art contest is designed to stimulate artistic growth through competition. The art competition rewards artists with $33,000 in cash prizes and exposure of their work, with the winning painting featured on the cover of PleinAir magazine. It is our belief that cash prizes provide further inspiration and an avenue for artists to thrive and create new work by helping alleviate financial pressure. Winners in each monthly competition may receive recognition and exposure through PleinAir magazine’s print magazine, e-newsletter, and social media. Winners of each competition will also be entered into the annual competition.
What Makes this event different?
The PleinAir Salon is a completely online competition. There is no mailing of your artwork for an exhibition. You can submit paintings whether they have won an award in another competition or not. Each Grand Prize winner receives a check for $15,000 and their artwork gets featured on the cover of PleinAir Magazine, which is the #1 representational art magazine at Barnes & Noble. The winners of each monthly competition are automatically entered into the running for the Annual Competition and that $15,000 check!

By entering the PleinAir Salon, you agree that you are submitting images of your own original artwork and not that of other artists or material in which you do not hold the copyright. The original work does not have to currently be in your possession.
Image Usage Rights
You are also agreeing, in advance, to have your submitted artwork and your image published to any print or digital/electronic property of Streamline Publishing, Inc. This includes, but is not limited to, print and digital magazines, newsletters, websites, e-mails, social media pages, and promotional materials in perpetuity.
Call for Entries for Plein Air Artists
The PleinAir Salon Online Art Competition was created by PleinAir Magazine in 2011 with the intent of rewarding artists for their hard work. We continue with this mission today by allowing artists all over the world to enter as many paintings as they like into the competition. While we are PleinAir Magazine, we recognize that some artists will use a plein air painting, study or experience to create a studio piece. With that in mind, we do allow studio works in each of the eligible categories. All subject matter and painting mediums are accepted except where otherwise noted. We also reach out to the top gallery owners and museum directors to be the judges for our competitions. Take a chance and get your artwork in front of these top professionals! We have 19 categories artists can enter and we award each category as well as First, Second, Third and People’s Choice. Each of those top four winners receives a cash prize and all monthly winners are entered into the Annual Competition with a shot at the $15,000 Grand Prize and the cover of PleinAir magazine!
