Event History

For over twenty years this annual juried exhibition has been featuring artists from across the region and nation.

What Makes this event different?

The Delaplaine Arts Center is in historic downtown Frederick, MD. With Frederick's growing reputation as a tourist destination and its central location between Baltimore, MD, and Washington, DC, the Delaplaine is in a unique position to serve an expansive range of audiences and visitors.

Submission of an entry constitutes permission to photograph it for publicity purposes.

Call to artists and photographers

The Delaplaine Arts Center announces the 2020 National Juried Exhibition, which is an annual show featuring works in a variety of media by artists from around the region and nation. All media are eligible. This includes but is not limited to: painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, drawing, installation, and sculpture.


About the 2020 Juror

Noah Smalls is the juror. Smalls is the Director of Exhibitions and Collections Management at the Williams College Museum of Art in Massachusetts, as well as the Gallery Director of the Upper Darby Art Gallery and Rush Arts Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As an independent curator, Smalls has been involved with numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums across the U.S.


Important Dates

March 23, 2020 • Deadline for entry submission (by 11:59 pm)
April 6, 2020 • Notification of accepted works (by 5 pm)
April 23, 2020 • Deadline for delivery of accepted works
May 2 – June 14, 2020 • Exhibition
May 2, 2020 • Art Matters juror presentation (2 pm), First Saturday opening reception (3-5 pm), Awards Announcement (by 3:30 pm)


Awards

First — $1,000
Second — $500
Third — $250
Honorable Mention — $125


Guidelines

All artwork must be original work by the submitting artist and should have been completed in the last 2 years. Artwork must not have been previously exhibited at the Delaplaine. Accepted works should arrive ready to hang or install. 

Fee — $35 per artist for up to three (3) images ($25 if artist is a current member of the Delaplaine).

Number of Pieces — Artists may submit up to 3 pieces (in JPEG format) for consideration.
 
The Delaplaine will announce the list of accepted works in April on the Delaplaine webpage and social media sites.
