Application Criteria

  • This exploratory drawing residency welcomes artists of all disciplines, from sculptors to animators, and at all stages of their careers, with some form of established drawing practice, although not necessarily life drawing.
  • This opportunity is open to professional artists from across the UK and internationally, including students enrolled in post-graduate study.
  • Selected artists must be available to attend in person at Owlpen Manor from 1st – 5th June 2026. Those travelling from afar can arrive on Sunday 31st May.
  • Accommodation, meals and materials are fully funded during this residency (travel expenses are not included).

 

Tutor

Martin Morris is renowned as an innovative and effective educator in the field of drawing. He is a skilled draughtsman, animator and proponent of new technologies. He leads courses at art colleges including Kingston, the Royal College of Art and Farnham, as well as creative agencies Ogilvy and Mather. He collaborates with the Drawing Room in London, RISD USA and has facilitated cultural exchanges with the Fine Art Animation Course at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna.

 

Selection Panel

Participating artists (a minimum of 5 from the open call) will be selected by theCOLAB Director Claire Mander and a panel of experts in the field of drawing including; Elena Crippa, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art and Projects, The Courtauld; Mary Doyle, Director, Drawing Room; Luce Garrigues, Curator; Jane Hayes Greenwood, artist and 2025 BODY and PLACE residency participant; Tania Kovats, artist; and Chris Stephens, Director of the Holburne Museum.

 

Previous Participants

Previous BODY and PLACE recipients have ranged from recent graduates such as Camillia Bliss to mid-career and established artists including Claye Bowler, Adam Chodzko, Emma Cousin, Adam Dant, Laura Ford, Jane Hayes Greenwood, Claire Morgan, LR Vandy and Alison Wilding.
