Email Friend Add to Favorites Report Listing

Fairfax County has asked The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA to facilitate the proposal, creation, and installation of a commissioned suspended installation at the new South County Police Station and Animal Shelter. The anticipated substantial completion date is Spring 2023. More information about the project, including renderings can be found online:  www.fairfaxcounty.gov/publicworks/capital-projects/south-county-police-station-and-animal-shelter

Proposals are now being accepted to select one artist for a commissioned, 3-dimensional art installation, that will be permanently installed as a suspended piece from the ceiling of South County Police Station lobby to welcome the community to the facility. The commissioned work will bridge two spaces and is meant to serve as a piece that ties the Police Station and Animal Shelter together.

The dimensions of available space for the work are:

  • Acoustical tile ceiling at 9’ high (safety features such as security cameras, strobes, fire sprinklers, and exit signs will need to be considered)
  • Vestibule: 17’ x 7’4”
  • Lobby: 13’6” x 19’4”
  • Pre-function area: 30’7” x 10’9”

A maximum budget of $20,000 will be allocated for each selected proposal. Artists residing in Fairfax County will be given priority consideration for this project.
