What Makes this event different?
The competition exclusively applies to the videomapping of the Marienkirche. For all other locations, applicants are required to submit a proposed budget as part of their application.
To mark the commemorative year “2025 – Year of Freedom” and as part of the Thuringian State Exhibition “freiheyt 1525 – 500 Years of the German Peasants’ War”, the City of Mühlhausen invites artists to reimagine the historic old town through light art, projections, and videomapping.
We are looking for contemporary artistic contributions that explore themes such as freedom, resistance, social transformation, and remembrance — and translate these into a visual language.
The aim of the project is to make history tangible in public space — beyond the boundaries of conventional exhibition formats. On October 17 and 18, 2025, six locations in Mühlhausen’s old town — including prominent churches, squares, and alleys — will become a stage for a walkable light installation. Artists are encouraged to contribute their own perspectives — whether experimental, narrative, or abstract.
The submission deadline is June 30, 2025.
