Intent to Participate for the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp and Print Annual Art Competition
Event History
Since 1985, WHC has hosted their annual wildlife art competition to find the piece that will be featured on the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp and Print in the upcoming year. The winning painting is reproduced into art prints and miniaturized into stamp form! This Stamp is available for purchase as a collector's item and is also affixed to validate the Canadian Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit (which is purchased primarily by waterfowl hunters). The stamp price currently sits at $8.50 and has not changed since 1991. There is a push to increase this cost to provide even more funds for conservation in Canada. This Stamp has generated over $55 million in funds that WHC has been able to invest to support more than 1,500 conservation projects! By creating a partnership between art and conservation, WHC has been able to support habitat restoration and enhancement for more than 35 years.

The Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp and Print Art Competition is an annual wildlife art contest that is open to all Canadian artists. Wildlife Habitat Canada is looking for those with experience in realism that can portray a beautiful nature scene with the chosen species featured to be included on our Conservation Stamp. The selected species for the upcoming Stamp is the Ring-necked Duck (Aythya Collaris). Prior to COVID-19 this competition was an in-person event but has since been switched to virtual operation to abide by pandemic guidelines (We have each painting digitally reproduced to provide high resolution and high-quality images). The upcoming competition will once again be held online, with virtual judging from bird species experts, habitat specialists, philatelic stamp specialists, and our partners at Environment and Climate Change Canada. The latest art competition information package and registration is now available on our website. The deadline for intent to participate is due on July 31, 2021, and the deadline for painting submissions is October 28, 2021. There is a $30 entry fee that is to be submitted with the painting at the time of completion. We accept whatever medium that is preferred by the artist as long as it is an original, multi-coloured painting. However, the piece may not be pastel or digitally/mechanically produced. For other technical considerations and additional information and examples, please visit our website to view the Art Competition Information Package. If you think your artwork fits and you’d like to be part of our competition - please email samples of your realism work to amangan@whc.org prior to submitting your Intent to Participate.
