The Arnold Newman Prize is now proudly administered by Maine Media Workshops + College
The Prize was established in 2009 by the Arnold and August Newman Foundation. The Prize was created to recognize and reward excellence for new directions in photographic portraiture. Each year an annual prize of $20,000 is given to the winner and they are acknowledged in New York City with an exhibit and celebration. The winner’s work is also exhibited at the PhoPa Gallery in Portland, Maine. The Arnold Newman Prize is awarded annually to a photographer whose work demonstrates a compelling vision in the genre of portraiture. Arnold Newman was often heard to say “we make photographs with our hearts and with our minds.” The Arnold Newman Prize is intended to help a photographer to continue their work, and to serve as a launching pad for the next phase of their career.
