Event History

The Pastel Society in its present form was instituted in 1898. There were seventy-seven members, among them such well-known names as H. B. Brabazon, George Clausen RA, W. Q. Orchardson RA, Solomon J. Solomon and the founder G. F. Watts RA in the list of original members. The Society joined the Federation of British Artists at the Mall Galleries in 1970. This will be the 123rd Annual Exhibition.

The Pastel Society is seeking the best in contemporary dry media, combining traditional skills with creative originality for their exhibition. Artists are invited and welcome to submit artwork for exhibit alongside members of The Pastel Society at their 123rd Annual Exhibition 2022. 

Eligibility

  • Any artist over 18 may submit.
  • Acceptable media: Pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, pencil, conté, sanguine, or any dry media.
  • Submission fee: £20 per work (or £14 per work for artists aged 35 or under).
  • Maximum of six works submitted. Maximum of four works selected.
  • Work must have been completed during the twelve months prior to the exhibition and not have been exhibited elsewhere.
  • Works should not be larger than 2.4m along the longest dimension.
  • All work must be for sale. Minimum price: £300.
  • The price of works must include 45%+VAT commission.

How to Submit

All work must be submitted online. Pre-selection from online entries will take place, after which pre-selected works should be delivered to Mall Galleries, London, for final selection:

  • Upload images of work at www.mallgalleries.oess1.uk between Friday 1 October and Friday 3 December 2021, 12 noon [Note: Images must be in JPEG format and under 5MB]
  • Check www.mallgalleries.oess1.uk from 12 noon on Friday 10 December to see if your work has been pre-selected.
  •  If pre-selected, deliver your work for final selection on Saturday 15 January 2022, 10am to 5pm, to Mall Galleries, 17 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5BD
  • Check the website from 12 noon on Tuesday 18 January to see if your work has been selected.
  • If unaccepted, collect your work on Thursday 20 January, 10am to 5pm
