AT WHAT COST sheds light on the operational costs of time, materials, and energy that fuels our creativity. Centering the humble medium of zines and ephemera, an almost inconspicuous material in contemporary art, this exhibition’s focus is to elevate this medium to greater appreciation and understanding by highlighting the amount of unseen labor and resources within these small but mighty productions. We hope to bridge the connections of production to the stories zines and ephemera hold as a testament to our desire for connection and information sharing in the face of rising costs to put yourself out there as an artist.
Galley 263 invites zine and ephemera artists to submit final zine products as well as process images, materials, sketches, and first drafts of your work over the past three years to culminate into an intimate exhibition that bridges the gap between the process of making and the final product. We encourage you to share with us the journey of your work: silly doodles, test prints, diary entries turned into a booklet, event flyers, and comics. The stuff you made because you had a feeling and paper was nearby- tell us about it.
