Event History
Proudly supported by ING for 27 years, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is one of the longest-running commercial art sponsorships in the UK. Since it began in 1999, 15,000 works by over 4,000 artists have been exhibited, over £300,000 has been awarded in prize money, and over £1.4 million worth of art has been sold on behalf of the artists.
What Makes this event different?
A panel of six prominent art world figures - two artists, two critics and two collectors - select works of art for the exhibition.
The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is famous for its unique selection process. Some of the artwork comes from artists who are personally invited by a selector, and the remainder is selected through an open submission process, allowing emerging artists to exhibit alongside more established names. Each selector makes their choices independently, giving them the opportunity to champion talented artists, and resulting in the curation of six small exhibitions within the whole.
“It’s an opportunity to champion the work of all kinds of artists, not just those who are already known, but also emerging artists” says Curtis Holder, a selector for the ING Discerning Eye 2025. “I’m especially interested in work that’s been overlooked because it doesn’t fit easily into expected categories. As a selector, I want to make space for that kind of work.”
“Anyone whose work reflects the world from a fresh angle, preferably with wit and a compelling composition, has my vote” adds artist and selector Polly Morgan.
