Event History
Cloudbough Residency is a new residency offering affordable, short-stay accommodation for up to 4 creatives on an ongoing basis. Creators from visual, written, music, design, curatorial, new media, academic and performance backgrounds (local and international) are encouraged to apply. The residency does not ask guests to produce specific creative outcomes. Instead, it provides an out-of-city retreat for creatives to focus, deepen their practice, or take time-out. Creatives are also encouraged to engage with the location in the spirit of immanence, interconnection and community, and this will be reflected in a visitor’s journal at the end of stay.
What Makes this event different?
Cloudbough Residency is set in the New South Wales regional town of Kandos at the foot of Mount Cumbermelon. Kandos is home to the dynamic Cementa contemporary arts festival and in the last 10 years, it has become a magnet for creatives wishing to explore alternative modes of cultural production and connection. Its ancient landscape, fascinating history and warm community combine to create an inspiring site for a residency. Essential amenities including a grocer, post office, pharmacy, cafes, eateries, museum and local art gallery are in walking distance. Within a short drive you'll find more village cafes, boutiques, grocers, pubs and hardware, vineyard tasting rooms and restaurants, camping, swimming and magical forest walks. Cloudbough Residency acknowledges and pays respect to the Wiradjuri people – the traditional custodians of this land – to their elders past, present and emerging, it is on their ancestral lands that Cloudbough Residency is located.
