What Makes this event different?
photo l.a. has celebrated and brought together the photography + art community from around the world for 30 years. It is with this mission that we present FOCUS photo l.a., a biannual competition open to help provide emerging & mid-career artists/photographers a platform to promote their work and expand career opportunities.

The artist/photographer retains all rights to submitted images.
Image Usage Rights
photo l.a. may only use digital images of finalists' works submitted to the organization for marketing, promoting, and executing FOCUS photo l.a. only. All winning works are printed, framed, and exhibited and then held indefinitely by photo l.a. for future potential promotional purposes after the terminus of the juried exhibition or destroyed at the request of finalist and/or at the discretion of photo l.a. fair organizers. Local exhibition print pickups may also be available only in Los Angeles at sole decision of photo l.a. fair director; no delivery of exhibition prints will ever be arranged. No original works will be accepted for exhibition! photo l.a. use of finalists' digital images is non-exclusive and will never sell the framed exhibited work without a written mutual contract.
For FOCUS photo l.a. finalists are determined by a panel of renowned art + photography experts who will select the top 20 photographers from all of the completed submissions.
Entrants can submit a MAXIMUM of ten (10) photographs for consideration.
All finalists get their winning photograph professionally printed by our partner The Icon and expertly framed for a special live Los Angeles exhibition pop-up in September!
All finalists also get invited by our partner Open Show to present their projects at a live programming event during the Los Angeles exhibition ~ please note, final shortlist of artist talk presentations will be curated by organizers for scheduling purposes.
NEW IN 2021 ~ One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be selected from the Top 20 Finalists by the jury to receive a $1000 cash award.
Submissions are open to all Artists & Photographers working in all themes, types, and genres of photography. No original works will be exhibited.
