Sponsored by global bank ING, the open exhibition gives artists the opportunity to show their work to six distinguished selectors, exhibit in central London and win prizes totalling over £12,000.

The prizes include the ING Purchase Prize, worth £5,000, and celebrate a wide range of art media (including print, sculpture, landscape and portrait) from all regions of the UK.

ING and the Discerning Eye are delighted to announce this year’s selectors:

  • Adebanji Alade, artist, President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters,
  • Carol Leonard, dubbed the “doyenne of boardroom headhunters” by the Financial Times,
  • Gabrielle Blackman, one of the UK’s leading interior designers,
  • Nina Murdoch, award-winning painter, known for her abstract landscapes,
  • Paul Carey-Kent, art critic and writer for Seisma Magazine, FAD, Artlyst, Art Monthly, etc.
  • and Will Gompertz, journalist and critic, Director of London’s Sir John Soane's Museum.

Works chosen by the selectors will be shown in the annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London, from 15 to 24 November 2024, and in a virtual exhibition until 1 January 2025.
Online submissions will be open via a dedicated portal until 30 August 2024, 5pm.

The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is an annual show of small-scale works renowned for championing emerging artists and displaying a unique curatorial approach. A panel of six prominent art world figures - two artists, two collectors and two critics - select works of art for the exhibition.

Proudly supported by ING for 26 years, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is one of the longest-running commercial art sponsorships in the UK. Since it began in 1999, 12,000 works by 4,000 artists have been exhibited, £300,000 has been awarded in prize money, and over £1.25 million worth of art has been sold on behalf of the artists.

The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is famous for its unique selection process. Some of the artwork comes from artists who are personally invited by a selector, and the remainder is selected through an open submission process, allowing emerging artists to exhibit alongside more established names. Each selector makes their choices independently, giving them the opportunity to champion talented artists, and resulting in the curation of six small exhibitions within the whole.

All shortlisted artists will be eligible to win the following prizes:

  • The ING Purchase Prize, £5,000
  • The Discerning Eye Founder’s Prize - in honour of Michael Reynolds, £2,500
  • The Discerning Eye Chair’s Purchase Prize, £1,000
  • The Mervyn Metcalf Purchase Prize, £500
  • Parker Harris Prize: one year’s subscription to The Art Ladder mentoring programme for artists, and two one-to-one mentoring sessions, worth £600

All styles and media are welcome – including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, film, textile, and more.
